Delaware Technical Community College on the Owens campus hosted their annual job fair at the college gym on March 5. This was the college's second annual event. This fair was for the many Delaware Tech students that wanted to find a job for post-graduation. Over fifty employers were at the college that afternoon.

The students beforehand were told to dress business causal and to bring a resume for a potential employer.

"They will be able to talk one-on-one to all the employers and will able to ask questions about the company as well," said Career Counselor Deneice Berry prior to the event.

Many employers at the event were from a wide range of areas. From food service, medicine, construction, to life guarding, all of the employers were ready to explain the importance of their organizations.

One employer there was People's Place representative Janell Stanton. She was representing a non-profit agency for domestic violence victims with shelter locations in Kent and Sussex county.

"We are looking for a youth advocate in our girls group home, part-time domestic violence staff for our shelters, a case manager for our New Castle building for independent living, direct-care staff for our shelter program in Dover, and a licensed therapist for our counseling center," Stanton said.

Another employer there was Bob Smith, The Freeman Stage Human Resource Manager. The Freeman stage is an outdoor performing arts venue in Selbyville, Delaware.

"At the Freeman stage, we are recruiting for seasonal roles for cafe attendants, security guards, event staff, and hospitality staff that will shuttle performers back and forth from the hotels," Smith said.

Many students were excited to go the job fair, and many of them went in causal groups with their friends, many students such as Kaylie Smith, a Human Services major.

"My teachers announced that all of this was happening, so they highly recommended it," Smith said. She was excited about the event as she walked around with her peers.

The event was alive with inquiring students and recruiting employers. Everyone was engaged. Even though some students were not dressed professionally, many of the employers were still willing to speak with them. There were many shaking hands and smiling faces. The day was definitely a success.
