Hello, my name is Dalianny Corporan, and I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I moved to the United States when I was two years old to Queens, New York. I moved to Delaware when I was five.

I currently attend Delaware State University as a commuter student. I currently live with my parents, my sister, and my nephew Ezra. I study Mass Communications concentrating on Convergence Journalism. I want to become an established journalist, producer, and writer. I write for Delaware State University’s newspaper, The Hornet, and I also freelance for an independent magazine, WAVES Magazine, based in Philadelphia. It began as an internship, and I was eventually offered the freelancing position. I also attend different events as a journalist. In July, I went to the Ladybug Music Festival in Milford, and in September, I went to Firefly Music Festival in Dover.

I attended Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown, Delaware where I studied Media Broadcasting. I got experience in news reporting, broadcast news, and video production. After graduating high school, I attended Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown to study Mass Communications where I learned the basics of graphic design and news writing while taking prerequisites for math and English. After graduating from Delaware Tech, I received The Dream.US scholarship to attend Delaware State University.
I grew an interest in journalism because of my passion and admiration for the news. Ever since I was a little girl, I can remember watching the news anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas thinking, “wow, that job is so cool!” and wanting to work for them behind the scenes. I am more interested in executive production and news writing than being on the air. I also have an interest in being a feature writer or a columnist. I want to work for either a major magazine or newspaper in the future.
The reason why I am passionate about journalism is how the news has the power to bring awareness to issues happening all around the world. An article that resonated with me was “The Other Afghan Women,” by Anand Gopal about the women in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over the country. I liked how the article highlighted the Afghan women who are often forgotten about in the oppressive country. Gopal mastered the art of storytelling and journalism.
Another writer that inspires me is Mohammed el-Kurd. He is a Palestinian activist who represents his people and speaks against the Israeli colonization of Palestine. He is a creative writer and poet and I admire his tenacity in speaking against the oppressive Israeli government and speaking on behalf of the Palestinian people. He wrote an amazing article about his grandmother showcasing the resilience of Palestinian women.
I plan to graduate in 2024 from Delaware State University and to move another city to launch my career.
