Many women today face the cultural stigma of abortion. The word itself has a negative connotation. Many people see abortion as evil act that only irresponsible women do, and many people only refer to the bible when it comes to forming an opinion about Planned Parenthood. However, many miss out on the real facts on how these women are only everyday people that are not ready to have a child.

The False Idea of Abortions

According to Berny Belvedere article, he agrees with Don Marquis' argument that abortion is wrong even if the fetus is technically not a person because an abortion deprives the future of a fetus in it's present moment. Marquis claims a fetus can have potential future projects, experiences, and activities. It could also not have a great future, but no one knows that for sure.

Many people would agree with this ideology that a potential life could have been made if there was no abortion. So why don't these women chose to adopt? People want to believe they don't consider adoption because they are lazy and don't want to be responsible for a child, but the reality is they don't want to feel guilt from giving away their child.

Why Women Would Rather Not Adopt

According to The Atlantic article, women find it more emotionally painful to give up their child for adoption. Many women rather prefer to abort than to keep their child.

Here are the facts on abortion according to Planned Parenthood:

1. It is a safe procedure. In-clinic abortions work 99 percent of the time and takes about ten minutes. Medication is over 93 percent effective and takes about twenty-four hours.

2. Women afterwards receive written after-care instructions and a phone number they can call for any questions or concerns.

3. Planned Parenthood leads the country with the most up-to-date medical standards and guidelines for health care, including abortion. They regularly review new medical research and get updates from groups like the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Overall, 1 in 4 women in the U.S. will have an abortion by the time they’re 45 years old. It is more common than one may think, so it should be less taboo for them.
